The Bhil country of the western Vindhya

The Bhil hills between the Narmada and the Mahi, on the Paramara and Chaulukya frontier.

The Bhil clans choose their own pals under chiefs (bhumia and dungri-wale), fight with the bow, and raid the roads to Cambay and Ujjain when the kings are weak. The kings call them subjects when they can collect and forest-dwellers when they cannot.
