At the monsoon's height Kutch is an island between the Great Rann of salt flats to the north and the Little Rann to the east, and a country of thin grass, wells and stony hills.
The Banni grassland between the Rann and the hills feeds the cattle; the towns (Anjar, Bhachau, Bhuj country, Kera, Kotai, Kanthkot) sit where the water is. The campaign board calls the lordship contested between local chiefs, the Samma and Jadeja claims from across the Kori creek, and Chaulukya homage. The Jadejas who give Kutch its later rulers come from Sind in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries (recalled, not rechecked), and Bhuj as a capital is of the sixteenth century.

How things stand that morning
No ruler is named for Kutch in the sources we reached.
Wealth
Cattle, camel and horse herds; sea trade at the creek harbours; salt.
Where the sources disagree
- The campaign board entry the-samma-country calls it 'the Samma and Jadeja country' contested; the Jadejas are of the later period in the sources we know, so for 1200 the Samma claim is Sind-side and the Jadeja not yet.
Evidence: The campaign board only; the Jadeja arrival from memory.
"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.
On the map: Drawn as a rough outline from the campaign board's description of the country; the edges are not fixed.
