St Gallen

The town that grew round the great abbey of St Gall in the Steinach valley.

The abbey's advocacy came to the Staufen with the Pfullendorf inheritance and is exercised through sub-advocates such as Heinrich of Sax; Berthold V will fail to seize it in 1210 and Kyburg in 1226.

Where the sources disagree

  • The abbot on 1 January 1200 is taken from the usual abbot lists, not from a source read in this run; the Church map is canon.
