Belzig

The Burgward of Belizi, given to Magdeburg in 997, came to the Ascanians in the 12th century and then to the burgraves' family; Siegfried is first called count of Belzig in 1201 and his line builds the stone castle.

A market settlement (oppidum) is first named in 1269.
