San Leo

The rock-top city of Mons Feretri, seat of the bishop of Montefeltro, which gave its name to the whole district and to the counts.

In 1200 it is the bishop's town, though the count Montefeltrano's family is the power of the surrounding hills.

The Dizionario Biografico (Montefeltrano, 2012) says San Leo, the bishop's city, did not become part of the Montefeltro domains until about the mid-fourteenth century; before about 1210 the bishop held jurisdiction over the district. Its cathedral was rebuilt in 1173. A Pietro Carpegna was bishop in 1125; the bishop in 1200 is not pinned.

Lord in 1200

The bishop of Montefeltro; not the counts of Montefeltro.

How things stand that morning

The bishop's; the counts' influence strong around it.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: Settled by the Dizionario Biografico on Montefeltrano.
