Győr

Győr stands where the Rába and the Rábca meet the Mosoni-Duna, on the site of Roman Arrabona.

The royal county castle and the bishop's cathedral share the fortified point, with the settlements of castle folk, the bishop's people and traders round them on the Vienna road. Its bishop, Ugrin of the Csák kindred, is one of Emeric's pillars.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: The castle and see are well known; the town of 1200 is not described in the sources checked.

On the map: The town's near land is a few kilometres round the settlement; Hungarian towns of 1200 governed no district of their own.
