Bihar

The great earthwork of Bihar, 14 km north of Várad, first named in 1067 (Byhor).

Anonymus's Deeds of the Hungarians, written about Béla III's time, makes it the castle of Duke Menumorout. It is the seat of the county of Bihar; the bishop who once sat here has long since moved to Várad.
