Arad

Arad on the Maros is first named as Orod in 1078-1081.

Near it the royal assembly of 1131 met, where Queen Helena had the magnates blamed for the blinding of Béla II put to death; Béla II gave their goods to the newly founded chapter of Arad and to Óbuda. In 1200 Arad is a county castle with the provostry of St Martin and its settlement, on the river road by which Transylvanian salt reaches the plain.
