History of the doges of Venice

The earliest surviving Venetian narrative close to the events. For the years around 1200 it covers Doge Enrico Dandolo (1192 to 1205), the war with Pisa in the Adriatic, Zadar's defiance, Venice's standing with Byzantium after the chrysobull of 1198, and the first dealings that led to the Fourth Crusade treaty of 1201. Brief and favourable to the doges.
