Town · Kediri (Panjalu) under Kertajaya · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Tumapel

The district seat of the akuwu of Tumapel.

In January 1200 it is a district of Kediri under a local lord and nothing more; Ken Arok and the founding of Singhasari belong to the 1210s and 1222. The Singhasari name for the later capital and the Singosari town are modern; the original village of Tumapel is not located, so the dot is the modern town of Singosari (-7.892, 112.666). The cool, well-watered Malang basin has rice, the Kawi and Arjuno slopes behind and a road down to the Brantas.
