Canggu crossing

The principal ferry on the lower Brantas, where the road from the north coast meets the river road.

A Majapahit plate of 1358 licenses seventy-eight ferrymen on the Brantas and the Solo together (the campaign board's figure; it is a late number, not one for 1200), which shows a system that plainly already existed. The ferry is a toll point and a rural market place; the name Canggu is the crossing's, not a town's.
