Notes in Answer to Questions about the Lands beyond the Passes

A Guangxi official's notes, written twenty years before 1200, on the south-western frontier of the Song and the countries beyond. Its chapters on foreign lands describe Annan (Dai Viet) in detail, with the Ly court, its frontier markets with Guangxi and its wars; Champa; Zhenla; Dali and its horse trade through Guangxi; Pagan; Srivijaya and Java; and more distant lands. It is the source Zhao Rukuo copied for the Zhu fan zhi, and is closer to 1200 and more first hand for Dai Viet and Dali. The original was lost and the text was recovered from the Yongle encyclopedia.
