Vasto, the Roman Histonium, is in 1200 two neighbouring settlements on the coast south of the Sangro, Guasto d'Aimone on the old town and the medieval Guasto Gisone.
The great Benedictine abbey of San Giovanni in Venere (a Church map record) holds wide lands on this coast to the north. The lords of the two Guasti in 1200 are not pinned; Charles of Anjou's grant to Tommaso Fasanella is 1269.
