Peccioli

A castle of the Valdera above the Era.

The da Catignano family sold it to the bishop of Volterra in 1115, who ceded it to Pisa; in 1163 Pisa crushed a revolt there and razed its walls; Henry VI gave it to the bishop of Volterra in 1186 and then to the commune of Pisa in 1192 (confirmed by Otto IV in 1209 and Frederick II in 1220). The pieve of San Verano is of the late eleventh or early twelfth century.
