The Veddas

The Veddas (Wanniyalaeto) are the forest people of the dry zone's eastern edge, around Bintenne, the Mahaweli's lower valley and the Uva lowlands.

They hunt, gather honey and trade forest produce with the plain; the Sinhalese kings use them as guides and archers. They answer to no king in practice.
