Stargard

Castle on the Ihna, named in 1140 (castrum Stargord), with the older Slav settlement of Osetno a few kilometres south; the site of the Slav castle is uncertain.

A castle district centre in 1200, not a chartered town: the German settlement is fortified from 1229 and gets Magdeburg law from Barnim I in 1243 or 1253. In 1248 the bishop and Barnim I exchange Stargard and Kolberg.
