Demmin

The castle of Demmin (Haus Demmin), at the meeting of the Peene, the Tollense and the Trebel, was a Circipanian border fortress, a 'civitas maxima' to Adam of Bremen, visited by Otto of Bamberg in 1128, besieged in the Wendish crusade of 1147, burnt by the Slavs before the battle of Verchen in 1164, and a ducal residence since 1156.

Margrave Otto I besieged it in late 1180, when Casimir I probably fell. A trading place grew under the castle. The grid-plan German town with Lübeck law comes in 1236-49.
