Background only. Helmold ends in 1171, but his account of Henry the Lion's conquest and settlement of the Wendish lands, the foundation of Lübeck, the bishoprics of Oldenburg (Lübeck), Ratzeburg and Schwerin, and the Obodrite princes explains the Holstein, Mecklenburg and Rügen world that Arnold of Lübeck picks up for 1200.
