Polcenigo sits at the foot of the Cansiglio where the Livenza rises, at the western edge of Friuli above Sacile.
Its fortified buildings were known by the end of the tenth century, and between 1000 and 1100 they and the fief passed to the lords of Polcenigo, who later became counts. The lord on 1 January 1200 is not pinned.
