Katehr

Between the Ganges, the Ramganga and the Himalayan foot the Katehriya Rajput clans hold villages and ravines, and their chiefs live in forts of mud and brick.

They pay the Ghurids at Badaun when a column is within a week's ride and withhold it otherwise. Sambhal and Amroha are their towns; Ahichchhatra (Ramnagar), Panchala's old capital, is a ruin.

The campaign board names "the Katehr country" without a source; Katehr appears in the sultanate chronicles from the 1250s, after 1200. Treated here as a people that pays when a column is in reach.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: No source of the 1190s; later chronicles and the campaign board.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: Wide estimate.
