A plateau of tanks and temples between the Chittor plain, the Chambal and the Mina hills, on the roads from Chittor east to Bundi and the Chambal.
With Ajmer in Ghurid hands the plateau's allegiance is open: it is the seam between Mewar, Malwa and the conquest. Bijolia and Menal were Chahamana endowments (inscriptions of 1170 and 1169); Mandalgarh and Jahazpur are the gates. The Hada Chahamanas who give it its later name are not yet there (they take Bundi in 1241, board).
