Ybbs

A Danube place with a castle by 1073 ('Ibseburch'), once held by the counts of Sempt-Ebersberg.

In the Middle Ages one of the main Danube toll stations and the end of an iron road from the Erzberg; the crusade armies of 1147 and 1189 passed it. Not a chartered town in 1200 (it is called a town only in 1317).
