Laa

Not yet a town.

A village at a ford of the Thaya on the road from the Danube to Bohemia and Moravia, first named in 1150 in a Passau rent roll. The Babenbergs acquired property there from several lords about 1190; Leopold VI lays out the planned fortified town only about 1230.
