Osian

A caravan town on the edge of the sand north of Mandore with the densest group of eighth to twelfth century temples in Marwar, including a Mahavira shrine of 783 (board) that is the oldest standing Jain temple in western India.

The Oswal merchants take their name from it. A local tradition puts a Ghurid sack in 1195; play it as a damaged town, not a working emporium. See Osian Mahavira.
