Town · Landgraviate of Thuringia · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Marburg

The landgrave's castle over the Lahn, first named in 1138-39, with a market settlement below it.

Not yet a chartered town: the burgesses are first mentioned in 1222 and Marburg became a town with its own parish in 1227. Elisabeth's widowhood and the Teutonic Order's church come much later.
