Domažlice

Domažlice guards the road from Prague to Regensburg where it crosses the Bohemian Forest by the Všeruby pass to Furth.

A toll settlement is said to have stood here from the tenth century; the place is first documented as a village in 1231, and Ottokar II builds a fortified royal town here in 1262-1265. The free frontier peasants, the Chods, guard the passes in later centuries (their role in 1200 not pinned).
