Frontier town · The Senas of Bengal · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Devikot (Bangarh, Kotivarsha, Devkot)

The old Kotivarsha on the Punarbhava, in the north of the Sena country towards Kamarupa.

Minhaj's Devkot is where Bakhtiyar Khalji leaves in 1206 for Tibet and where he lies ill and is murdered by Ali Mardan Khalji (English Wikipedia). On 1 January 1200 it is a Sena frontier town with a vihara quarter (board) on the road to the Kamarupa edge.

What the year holds

What happened next, if nothing in play changes it. Each event carries what it depends on and what would stop it.

  1. 1206Bakhtiyar leaves Devkot for Tibet; defeated, he returns ill and is murdered here by Ali Mardan Khalji.Depends on: The Ghurids hold Lakhnauti and Devkot. Stopped by: Bakhtiyar does not march.

Places of note

  • Devikot: Devkot.

Where the sources disagree

  • The campaign board entry devikot-bangarh is "likely" Sena; the town becomes Ghurid after 1202 to 1205.

Evidence: Persian narrative of 1206 and the campaign board.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.
