Valentinois

Count of the Valentinois between the Rhone and the Vercors, and of the Diois up the Drome, held of Toulouse.

The cities of Valence and Die belong to their bishops, so the count's power lies in castles and the countryside, with Crest as his main fortress. His court heard troubadours: a partimen with Perdigon and Raimbaut de Vaqueiras (about 1195) addresses him. Through Philippa of Fay he gained many fiefs in the Vivarais across the Rhone.
