Montauto

The Barbolani are counts in the hills above the upper Tiber between Arezzo and Borgo San Sepolcro, with the castles of Montauto on Monte Acuto and Galbino near Anghiari; the family had been lords of Anghiari and Caprese in earlier centuries.

In 1224 a later count, Alberto, will receive Francis of Assisi at Montauto after the stigmata.
