The Nghe An hills

The western hills of Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh, from Quế Phong and Quỳ Châu to Hương Khê and Vũ Quang, up to the Lao border: hill peoples, Tai speakers among them, under local headmen.

The Keo Nua track crosses the range at the south end. Elephants, ivory and forest goods come down to the Ca. We found no source for who rules these valleys in 1200; the Ly prefect of Nghệ An takes tribute in name.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: No source; drawn so the hills are not left empty.

On the map: A union of modern districts standing for the country; the real edge was not a line (a raiding belt or a day's walk of hills).
