The Bolaven plateau and its Katuic and Mon-Khmer hill villages

The volcanic plateau east of the Mekong, above the Sedone mouth, is forest and upland farmland held by its own villages, the source of forest products that come down the Sedone to the Mekong landing.

No source we read names its people or its chiefs for 1200. Modern ethnonyms are used with caution: the evidence for the hill peoples of 1200 is Chinese trade lists, Cham and Khmer stelae naming forest products, Vietnamese notices of campaigns and ethnography of later centuries.
