Salween plateau

The plateau on both sides of the Salween between the Pa-O hills and the Kengtung basin.

The great Tai migration that fills the plateau with Shan lordships is only beginning (board); the later Shan states of Mong Nai, Mong Pan and Mong Hsat are not yet founded as the chronicles tell them. The inhabitants in 1200 are Lua, Wa, Palaung and other hill peoples with Tai settlers moving into the valleys. No source we read describes this plateau for 1200.

  • Mong Nai: Modern centre.
  • Mong Hsat: Modern centre (gazetteer township centre).

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: The campaign board's blurb and later chronicles.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: A guess at a large unrecorded plateau. The north end is drawn up to Mongyai and Tangyan, and the west edge out to Loilen; no source we read places any ruler there in 1200.
