Palaung hills

The hills round Namhsan, home of the Palaung (Ta'ang), an old Austroasiatic hill people.

English Wikipedia (Palaung people) gives them no dated history before 1300 and says nothing of tea, chiefs or relations with Pagan; we found nothing dated to 1200. Tea is the Palaung's famous crop in later centuries and we do not claim it for this date. The Palaung also live on the edge of the Mogok tract and as neighbours of the Tai valleys, and the Palaung, Wa and Kachin villages above the Hsenwi and Mong Mit valleys are not governed from the valleys.
