Tulang Bawang: the river polity of the Lampung plain

The river polity of the Lampung plain, named in Chinese records as early as the seventh century (To-lang-p'o-huang) and the collecting point for the pepper of the far south in later centuries.

Whether it still answers to Palembang in 1200 is not documented; the tie is inherited and asserted. We found no text that shows pepper grown in Lampung before the late period.
