Toba-dono

A park and palace compound on the Kamo and Katsura rivers just south of the capital, begun by Shirakawa in 1086 [not yet checked against the source] and used by Toba and Go-Shirakawa as the seat of the cloistered government.

It is where the retired emperors' household and its estates (the Chōkōdō and Hachijō-in lands, among others [not yet checked against the source]) are administered. Go-Toba also loves the villa at Minase, to the south-west, whose building date we cannot pin (the 1190s or the first years of the 1200s [not yet checked against the source]).

How things stand that morning

Go-Toba keeps it in use (the campaign board); we have no event for 1199 or 1200.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: The campaign board and recollection. The coordinate is the park south of Kyoto, not a pinned building.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: The point is the park; the palace's buildings are not located.
