Port · The court at Kyoto and its provinces · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Anōtsu

Anōtsu lies on the Ise coast at the mouth of the Anō river (the modern city of Tsu).

It is the chief port of the Ise plain, a staple where Ise's rice, salt, silk and the Jingū's goods change hands, and a landing for ships on the long coastal run from the Kantō. The Ise Taira's old boatmen use it. It is the court's ground; Kamakura's reach here is thin. The great earthquake and tide that wreck it are of 1498, far later.

Where the sources disagree

  • The gazetteer's 'Tsu' is a municipality centre to the south-west: coordinates are given.

Evidence: Recollection and the campaign board; no page on the place was opened.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: The near land is drawn as seeds round the town; rights over men are scattered.
