Frontier town · The court at Kyoto and its provinces · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Seta

The provincial seat of Ōmi (kokufu) lies where the Seta river leaves Lake Biwa, beside the long Seta bridge (Seta no Karahashi), the one bridge across the outflow on the road from the east to Kyoto.

Every army from the east has to cross it or to go round by the hills: Yoshinaka's men were beaten at the Seta and the Uji in 1184 [not yet checked against the source]. Ishiyama-dera stands on the same river a little upstream.
