Port · The court at Kyoto and its provinces · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Obama

The Wakasa port on the Sea of Japan coast, with the provincial seat (kokufu) beside it.

Fish, salt and the Hokuriku goods reach Kyoto from here by the Saba road over the hills of the Kutsuki and Ōhara valleys in two days or so (the campaign board's 'two days'; we take it as plausible but not checked). Wakasa lies on the west of the Arachi barrier; the Tsuruga harbour is across the line to the east. The Wakasa coast is a land of small estates held by the court houses and the shrines [not yet checked against the source].
