Port · The court at Kyoto and its provinces · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Kuwana

Kuwana stands at the mouth of the three Kiso rivers at the top of Ise bay.

It is the Ise end of the sea crossing from Atsuta that joins the Tōkaidō across the head of the bay (recalled from the travel diaries of the 1220s and 1240s, which are later than 1200), and a staple where rice, timber and salt change boats. The court's governor of Ise and the Ise Jingū's mikuriya (recalled) hold the revenue; the Ise Taira remnants have kin among its boatmen.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: Recollection and the campaign board; no page on the place was opened.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: The near land is drawn as seeds round the town; rights over men are scattered.
