Kuala Tembeling and the Lebir portage: the road across the middle of the peninsula

Where the Tembeling joins the Pahang.

Boats turn north here for the road over to Kelantan, which is the only practical way across the middle of the peninsula (board). The watershed between the Tembeling running south to Pahang and the Lebir running north to Kelantan lets goods pass between the two coasts without going round Singapore: a few days of poling and one short carry (board). Roderich Ptak, as the English Wikipedia article on Tambralinga reports, would put the Zhufan zhi's Tan-ma-ling in this Tembeling country rather than at Nakhon; that is one reading among others and we do not draw it.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: Thin: from the campaign board's inference, archaeology and later sources; nothing dated 1 January 1200 names it.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.
