Hjørring

The centre of a fertile part of Vendsyssel, a mint town in the 1100s and the seat of the syssel assembly (sysselting) of Vendsyssel; when it became a chartered town is unknown, but a privilege of 1243 shows it already had that status (danmarkshistorien).

The bishop of Vendsyssel sits nearby at Børglum (Church map).
