Hida kokufu

Hida is a mountain province whose tax in the old state was paid in carpenters' labour (the Hida no takumi, recalled), so that its craftsmen build the temples of the capital.

The provincial seat lies in the Takayama basin. It is the court's province, with scattered proprietors and little contact with Kamakura; the high valleys of the Hida mountains are a refuge with no known lord. Hakusan's third gate (Chōtōji, in neighbouring Mino) leads up from the south.
