Town · Margraviate of Meissen · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Dresden

Not yet a town and not yet named: the name Dresden first appears on 31 March 1206, when Margrave Dietrich arbitrates there between the bishop of Meissen and the burgrave of Dohna.

In 1200 the place is the Elbe ford of the Nisan district with the old mother church of Our Lady and probably the margrave's castle; the bridge is attested only later in the century.
