Li highlands

The Hainan interior, the Wuzhi and Limu mountains, held by the Li (Hlai) in districts under their own headmen.

The Song holds the coastal ring; Han settlers from Fujian and Guangdong have been pushing the Li toward the mountains since the eleventh century (Wikipedia, "History of Hainan"). The Wang headwoman is the Song's channel to the nearer Li (see her record). The shu and sheng ("cooked" and "raw") terms are not in the Wikipedia sources we read for the Song period.
