Tarapith and the Shakta shrines of Bengal

The cremation-ground shrine of the goddess Tara on the Dwarka in Birbhum, a Shakta pitha in tradition; the standing temple is much later (general knowledge, unchecked).

We opened no source for its 1200 state; the brief lists it as a place of the Tantrics and the Shakta cult that the Sena kings, Brahmanical Shaivas and Vaishnavas, tolerate.

A shrine without a documented state in 1200.

Places of note

  • Tarapith: Shakta shrine.

Where the sources disagree

  • The brief lists Tarapith; the campaign board has no Tarapith entry.

Evidence: No source opened.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: A small disc for the house and its home villages; the granted villages lay scattered.
