Town · The Qara Khitai: the gurkhan's own lands · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Isfijab

Isfijab (the later Sayram), east of the modern Shymkent, is the old frontier town between Shash and the steppe, on the road from Shash to Taraz and the Chu.

In Samanid times it was a tax-free frontier principality; under the Qarakhanids it belonged to the eastern khanate. Its lord in 1200 is not recorded.
