Written for the Mongols but with a long retrospective on the powers they destroyed. Its second part gives the Khwarazmshahs: Tekish's conquest of Iraq-i Ajam and his death in 1200, the accession of Ala al-Din Muhammad and his war with the Ghurids over Khurasan (1200 to 1206), and the Qara Khitai overlordship of Transoxania with the Qarakhanids of Samarkand and the Qarluqs. The third part gives the Nizari Ismailis of Alamut from Hasan-i Sabbah to 1256, so the imam Nur al-Din Muhammad II (died 1210) and the Syrian mission are covered. Juvayni is a Khurasani bureaucrat; his Khwarazmian section is sound in outline, hostile to Muhammad, and loose on dates before 1210.
