A small ruling family on the Tungabhadra between the Belvola and the Banavasi country.
Feudatories of the Chalukya kings of Kalyani, they live by obeying whichever neighbour comes with an army.
Who he is
- Name
- not known for 1 January 1200; the line has kings called Vikramaditya and Joyideva
- Title
- Gutta mahamandaleshvara
- Since
- not pinned
- Born
- not known
- Family
- Gutta, a family of Chalukya feudatories at Guttavolal in the Haveri country (Fleet's long footnote on the Gutta mahamandaleshvaras, in the Dynasties of the Kanarese Districts)
- Confidence
- low
We could read only the first part of Fleet; the family is named there as a Chalukya feudatory house. A Hoysala or Yadava lord for 1200 is not pinned.
Overlord
not pinned (the regional brief lists them among the Hoysala feudatories or enemies of the 1190s)
What it holds
- Guttavolal (Guttal) and its surrounding villages
How it was acquired
Hereditary.
Allies and rivals
Kadambas of Hangal, Hoysalas, Yadavas.
How things stand that morning
Between the Hoysala and Yadava reach; contested.
Wealth
River and rice country.
Military
Local levy.
Threats
- Both kingdoms
Where the sources disagree
- The sid brief lists the Guttas as Yadava feudatories; the regional brief puts them wherever sources show. We mark them contested.
- Later: Fleet names the Guttas as feudatories under the Yadava Singhana II and Mahadeva; that is later than 1 January 1200 and we did not re-read it.
Evidence: Only the family and its type are known to me.
