The high north (Ha Giang)

The high limestone and the Lô valley between Vị Long and the Song border: the road up the Lô to Yunnan and Guangxi.

Thin hill peoples under local headmen. The Ly place chiefs here by title; what lies beyond the border villages is for the Guangxi and Yunnan sheets to write. Nothing is dated to 1200.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: No source; drawn so the high north is not left empty.

On the map: A union of modern districts standing for the country; the real edge was not a line (a raiding belt or a day's walk of hills).
