Circuit, prefecture or people · Chieftaincies of the south and south-west, on the loose rein · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Fan districts

The brief names Fanzhou and the Guiyang edge.

We read these as the "Fan" (barbarian) chiefs of the south-eastern plateau, the hill country between Guiyang, Duyun and the Guangxi border, who were given Song prefecture titles in the loose-rein system. We could not fetch a source and could not identify Fanzhou with any single Song prefecture; Sinan and Xiazhou, also named, are not placed here (Sinan is the later name of the Tian lands). The polygon is a zone.

Where the sources disagree

  • The brief names Fanzhou, Xiazhou and Sinan among the Guizhou chieftaincies; we could place only the Fan districts, loosely.

Evidence: Recollection only; no source fetched.

On the map: A zone, not a border.
